Honda Vezel LEB (2019): Fuel Pump Replacement (In-Tank)
On the first-generation Honda Vezel (HR-V), the fuel pump is installed in the fuel tank under the driver's seat. It is accessed through a service hatch after removing the seat and the center tunnel trim. The procedure requires relieving the fuel system pressure and careful handling of the electrical connectors.
Part
- 🔩 Fuel pump module assembly 17045-T7W-A01 (for the front-wheel-drive version RU3)
Step by step
15 steps- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Open the fuel filler cap to release vapor pressure. Remove the PGM-FI main relay 2 (fuel pump relay) from the fuse box under the dash. Start the engine and let it stall from fuel starvation, then crank it with the starter for another 2-3 seconds.
- Disconnect both terminals of the 12 V battery (negative first).
- Remove the driver's seat. Remove the 4 mounting bolts under the decorative caps (10 mm socket — 1 bolt between the seat and the seatback, and the 2 front sliding clips release by sliding the seat). Disconnect the electrical connectors for the seat heaters and airbags (if equipped).
- Remove the rear heater duct (if it blocks access to the hatch).
- Open the service hatch cover in the floor under the driver's seat. Clean the area around the pump module cover to keep dirt and dust from falling into the tank.
- Disconnect the pump module electrical connector — the latch is on the right; press it and pull. Then disconnect the fuel quick-connect fittings — double-sided white clip: squeeze it from both sides and pull the hose off. Place rags underneath to catch spilled fuel.
- Loosen the pump module lock ring. Use the special removal tool, or a flat screwdriver and hammer, tapping the tabs of the ring lightly counterclockwise. Once the ring is loose, unscrew it by hand and remove it together with the plastic washer.
- Remove the pump module from the tank. Pull it up carefully, rocking it from side to side. Tilt the module forward to drain the remaining fuel back into the tank and to guide the fuel level sender float out through the opening. Pull out the module together with the rubber seal ring.
- Clean the mounting seat in the tank and check the condition of the rubber seal — replace it if necessary.
- Install the new pump module. Make sure the rubber seal is seated correctly in the tank opening. Lower the module into the tank, tilting it so the float passes through the opening. Press the module down (it may spring back up), then install the lock ring and the plastic washer.
- Tighten the lock ring clockwise — first by hand until it stops, then with light hammer taps through the screwdriver for final seating.
- Connect the fuel quick-connect fittings (they should snap on with a distinct click) and the electrical connector.
- Reinstall the fuel pump relay in the fuse box. Connect both battery terminals (positive first). Turn the ignition on for 2-3 seconds without starting the engine to prime the fuel system — repeat 2-3 times.
- Start the engine and check the connections around the fuel pump hatch for leaks. If there are no leaks or unusual noises, close the hatch cover.
- Reinstall the rear heater duct (if removed). Install the driver's seat in reverse order — connect the connectors and tighten the 4 mounting bolts. Install the decorative caps.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Work in a well-ventilated area away from open flames and sparks. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Gasoline irritates the skin — wear gloves and rinse immediately with water if it gets on your skin. Be careful when working near airbags — disconnecting the battery is mandatory. If the pump module will not go down or floats up during installation, check that the float and the fuel level sender arms are positioned correctly.
