Honda Vezel LEB (2019): I-DCD Transmission Fluid Change
The Honda Vezel with the LEB hybrid engine uses a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual i-DCD transmission. Changing the fluid on schedule extends transmission life and helps prevent common hybrid system problems. The recommended change interval is every 20,000-30,000 km or every 2 years.
Part
- 🔩 Honda ATF DW-1 (OE number 08200-9008 or 08266-99964), quantity 1.3 L (1.4 qt) for 2WD or 1.6 L (1.7 qt) for 4WD, new drain plug sealing washer
Step by step
17 steps- Warm up the transmission by driving for 10-15 minutes in varied conditions. Warm fluid drains more completely.
- Raise the vehicle on a lift, or set it on jack stands on level ground, and secure it with the parking brake.
- Remove the underbody skid plate under the engine (usually 4-6 bolts or plastic clips).
- Locate the transmission case. The drain plug is at the bottom and the fill plug is on the top or side of the transmission case.
- IMPORTANT: First loosen the fill plug with a 19 mm wrench to make sure it will come out. Otherwise you risk ending up with an empty transmission and a stuck fill plug.
- Place a drain pan of at least 3 L (3.2 qt) capacity under the drain plug.
- Remove the drain plug with a 19 mm wrench and let the fluid drain completely (5-10 minutes).
- Inspect the drain plug. There should be no large metal shavings on the magnet (fine dust is acceptable). Wipe the magnet with a clean rag.
- Replace the drain plug sealing washer with a new one.
- Install the drain plug and tighten it with a torque wrench to 30-35 N·m (22-26 lb-ft). Verify the exact value in the manufacturer's service manual.
- Through the fill hole, add fresh Honda ATF DW-1 in an amount equal to what was drained (usually 1.3-1.6 L (1.4-1.7 qt) depending on 2WD/4WD version).
- Install the fill plug.
- Lower the vehicle and start the engine.
- Shift the selector through all positions (P-R-N-D-S-L), pausing 3-5 seconds in each, so the fluid circulates through all hydraulic passages.
- Bring the transmission to operating temperature (drive for 10-15 minutes).
- Shut off the engine and wait 2-3 minutes. Raise the vehicle again and check the level through the fill hole. At the correct level, the fluid should be at the lower edge of the fill hole (if the fill hole is on the side), or no higher than the mark on the dipstick, if one is fitted.
- Reinstall the skid plate.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Use ONLY genuine Honda ATF DW-1 fluid. Using CVT fluid (HCF-2) or third-party ATF will cause accelerated clutch wear and transmission overheating. Do not confuse the transmission fluid with the clutch hydraulic fluid (a separate fluid based on DOT 4 brake fluid, changed separately every 5,000 km). If you find large metal shavings on the drain plug or the fluid smells burnt, take the vehicle to a repair shop for transmission diagnostics before driving it again. On all-wheel-drive (4WD) versions, you must also change the fluid in the rear differential (Honda DPSF-2, 30,000 km interval).
