Lada Granta 1.6 8V 87 hp (2015): Front Brake Disc Replacement
On the first-generation Granta, the front brake discs are replaced as a pair. The discs are vented (with internal ribs), mounted on the hub and clamped by the caliper. The job is doable for a home mechanic with a jack and an inspection pit.
Part
- 🔩 front brake disc, 26 mm thick, 256 mm diameter. OE number Lada 21080350101. Aftermarket alternatives: Brembo, ATE, Ferodo (sold as a set of 2 discs)
Step by step
8 steps- Remove the front wheel. Support the car on the jack on both sides and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Remove the caliper mounting bolts (two M10 bolts, reassembly torque 20-25 N·m (15-18 lb-ft)). Remove the caliper and hang it with a wire or tie from the spring or strut. Do not let the caliper hang from the brake hose.
- Remove the two bolts (or bolts with pressed washers) that secure the disc to the hub. The disc is a press fit and may sit tight, so use a pry bar to remove it.
- Place the new disc on the hub and install the mounting bolts. Tightening torque: 50-70 N·m (37-52 lb-ft) (check the exact value in the Lada manual).
- Reinstall the caliper and tighten the mounting bolts to 20-25 N·m (15-18 lb-ft). Make sure the caliper sits evenly against the disc.
- Install the wheel and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to 110-130 N·m (81-96 lb-ft).
- Pump the brake pedal several times until it firms up (the caliper seats against the new disc).
- After driving 100-200 km, check the caliper temperature by hand. They should be warm, but not hot. If one side is cooler, there is air in the system and the brakes need bleeding.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not brake at full force right away, because new discs need to be bedded in. For the first 100-200 km, brake gently and avoid emergency stops. If the pedal feels soft or goes to the floor after reassembly, there is air in the system. Bleed the brakes or take the car to a repair shop. Tip: Replace the front brake pads at the same time (their service life often matches that of the discs). On a first-generation Granta, this takes an additional 15-20 minutes.
