Step by step

8 steps
  1. Open the door and inspect the sill trim cover to determine the attachment type (clips or adhesive backing).
  2. For clip-on plastic covers: insert a plastic pry tool between the sill and the body near the front, gently lift the top edge of the clip, and pull the cover upward. Work your way along the sill, releasing each clip (usually 3-5 per sill).
  3. For stick-on decorative sill covers: heat the adhesive layer along the full length of the cover for 30-40 seconds with a heat gun or hair dryer. Then use a plastic card or thin fishing line like a saw, slip it under the edge and pull it along the sill to separate the cover from the base.
  4. Remove any adhesive residue from the sill with isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated adhesive remover, then let the surface dry.
  5. Before installing the new cover, check the clips for damage (for the factory version). Replace any broken ones with new clips from fastener kit 8201632673.
  6. To install a plastic cover: line up the holes with the clips and press down with your palm along the sill until you hear each clip click into place.
  7. To install a stick-on decorative cover: degrease the sill surface, peel the protective film off the adhesive, and position the cover on the sill from the front edge to the rear. Press firmly along its full length for 10-15 seconds.
  8. Repeat the procedure for all four sills (front left and right, rear left and right).

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Do not use metal tools to pry off plastic covers. They will scratch the body paint and damage the clips. When working with adhesive-backed covers, do not heat the surface above 60-70 °C (140-158 °F) with the heat gun, because you can damage the sill paint.
